PRESERVATION THURSDAY: HOW I MET YOUR SOUTH DAKOTA WEATHER

DEADWOOD – Deadwood History, Inc. and the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission will host a presentation by KOTA-TV Chief Meteorologist Emeritus Rhonda Lee at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC), 150 Sherman Street, Deadwood. The event is free for members and $5 for non-members. Please feel free to bring your lunch.

Rhonda Lee is the most Googled meteorologist in the world, because she changed the world. Her hair journey is a big part of what makes her the weather nerd she is today. Lee recognizes safety first and will talk about severe weather safety and much more in a lively conversation.

Rhonda Lee has been in television for just about as long as she can remember. As a kid her dad asked her what she wanted to do when she grew up. She turned towards the television and told him “I want to do that.” WKRP in Cincinnati was on the television. He said, “Be on the radio?” and she said, “No be on television.” Her father was disappointed, he wanted her to be a U.S. Senator and an attorney. Lee had her first big break on television in high school as one of the four hosts of the Fox Kids Club in Wichita, Kansas. She also interned at almost every TV station in Wichita’s news department. Lee was a bit of a news nerd in school, but she always had a LOVE of weather. She is fond of saying she has been in weather since she was two years old when her parents claim her first comments about the weather were made from a car seat in Amarillo, Texas after a tornado.

Lee loves everything about Kansas State University, her alma mater. She and her husband are dedicated long distance runners who collectively have completed many full and half marathons. They are raising a fantastic little boy who is showing signs of loving running and the visual arts.
