PRESERVATION THURSDAY: EDUCATION AND THE ICE AGE

DEADWOOD – Deadwood History, Inc. and the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission will host a presentation by Seth Vandenberg, science educator at The Mammoth Site, at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC), 150 Sherman Street, Deadwood. The event is wheelchair accessible. The event is free for members and $5 for non-members. Please feel free to bring your lunch.

Seth Vandenberg will discuss how Pleistocene Paleontology and The Mammoth Site can be used to foster an appreciation for science in all ages, and the role museums play in scientific literacy. He will also highlight some of the discoveries and research that occurs at The Mammoth Site and how research translates into education.

Seth Vandenberg graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2019 with a B.S. in geology and a certificate in geospatial systems. During his time at Mines and after graduation, he worked with the Wyoming Dinosaur Center, leading members of the public on excavations to dig for dinosaur fossils in the Morrison Formation. His work at The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota, includes developing and teaching curriculum for K-12 students all over the country.
