PRESERVATION THURSDAY: ALICE ROOSEVELT LONGWORTH – WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT ME IS TRUE!

DEADWOOD – Deadwood History, Inc. and the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission will host a presentation by Phyllis Schrag at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC), 150 Sherman Street, Deadwood. The event is free for members and $5 for non-members. Please feel free to bring your lunch.

Have an encounter with Alice Roosevelt Longworth. Audience members will be involved as reporters at a press conference in Roosevelt Longworth’s home. As members of the press, the audience gets to ask predetermined questions. Via a PowerPoint™ presentation, the answers will give an account of Roosevelt Longworth’s colorful life, her relationship with her father, stepmother, and other family members as well as the times in which she lived. The audience will learn about this lively, witty, clever, acerbic, and delightfully rebellious daughter of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States.

Phyllis A. Schrag is an accomplished actor and living history performer formerly from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, now residing in Ames, Iowa. She holds a M.S.S. degree from the University of South Dakota in speech, drama, and gifted education. Schrag has taught public and private school, as well as at the University of Sioux Falls. She was the first recipient of the South Dakota Education Association Teacher of Excellence Award in 2001.
