PRESERVATION THURSDAY: A PATH LES TRAVELED

DEADWOOD – Deadwood History, Inc. and the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission will host a presentation by Black Hills nature photographer Les Heiserman at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC), 150 Sherman Street, Deadwood. The event is free for members and $5 for non-members. Please feel free to bring your lunch.

Les Heiserman will be showcasing some of the photos he has taken of Spearfish Canyon, the Black Hills, and western South Dakota. Heiserman is still fascinated by the landscape, the wildlife, and history. He hopes to share his passion for the Black Hills with his photos. See what he sees, on “A Path Les Traveled.”

Les Heiserman grew up on a ranch on Redwater Creek north of Spearfish. His family moved to Minnesota when he was in high school. Heiserman loved Spearfish, so he moved back after high school and has lived in the Spearfish area working different jobs ever since: roofer, mover, sign painter, and an elementary school custodian for 23 years before retiring. In 1982, Heiserman owned one of the first mountain bikes in the area which opened up the Black Hills for him to explore. He had colon cancer in 2003, and after that he started hiking more and taking photographs, trying to capture the beauty, history, and nature of the Black Hills that intrigue him so much. Heiserman appreciates, and doesn’t take for granted, good health, free time, and being in the right place at the right time.
