The Lead-Deadwood High School instrumental music students are preparing for their annual Solo/Ensemble Contest that is taking place on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. This event involves several hundred music students from schools throughout the western part of South Dakota. It will take place at the Rushmore Civic Center in Rapid City. Students will be performing solos and participating in ensembles ranging from two to twenty in front of judges who will provide ratings and valuable comments to help the students improve their performing skills.
LDHS will have a total of 40 students participating, 24 are instrumental students. This is not a part of the normal activities for those involved. It is for those who want to go above and beyond the normal requirements to help improve their skills and to add an extra challenge.
Deadwood History’s Education Director, Amanda Brown, will present the Lead-Deadwood band with a check in the amount of $850. The gift is funded through the generous support of the Walter and Frances Green Charitable Trust.
The event is co-sponsored by Deadwood History, Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission, Adams-Mastrovich Family Foundation, and Walter and Frances Green Charitable Trust.
