A NIGHT AT THE BREWSEUM AT THE DAYS OF ’76 MUSEUM

DEADWOOD – Deadwood History, Inc. will host A Night at the Brewseum at the Days of ’76 Museum on Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event is modeled after Comedy Central’s popular comedy series Drunk History. Tickets for Deadwood’s brainiest happy hour are $15 per person and includes two beers, snacks, and entrance to the museum’s Carriage Gallery. Advance reservations are required. Must be 21 or over. History can be serious and sometimes flat-out silly. Brewing has been a part of South Dakota’s history for well over 150 years. Dakota Territory was full of miners and entrepreneurs needing to quench their thirst, so breweries sprung up in many towns. A Night at the Brewseum will feature a social sponsored by Crow Peak Brewing Company, tour the Carriage Gallery, and participate in beer drinking entertainment with a presentation on Beer and Brewing in South Dakota: 1862 – 1942 from Ken Stewart.

Ken Stewart is a long-time South Dakota historian, specializing in popular culture. For the last 19 years, he has been the Research Administrator at the South Dakota State Historical Society and State Archives. He is the author of numerous newspaper and magazine articles and a contributor to various South Dakota town and county histories. Stewart has also contributed to works published by Time-Life Books and American Heritage. His special interests are mining history, ghost and near ghost towns, railroad, and early industries in the state – thus, his long-interest in the brewing history of South Dakota. Stewart’s article on Early South Dakota Brewing was published in South Dakota History in the winter 2012 quarterly publication from the South Dakota Historical Society, as well as an earlier article, The Boom and Bust of Central City, published in 1972.

The event is co-sponsored by the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission, Adams-Mastrovich Family Foundation, Deadwood History, Crow Peak Brewing Company, Duhamel Broadcasting, Deadwood Chamber of Commerce, and Ken Stewart, South Dakota State Archives.
