Hours & Schedule

Up to 36 hours per week may be available May through October. Must be willing to work some weekends and holidays.


Summary of Position

Deadwood History is looking for friendly, outgoing, and professional Tour Guides to provide visitors with an exceptional experience of the 104-year history of the brothels in Deadwood. 

Primary Responsibilities

● Present an exceptional tour to the participants, adhering to the manual, and other assigned materials for historically accurate information.
● Enthusiastically greet visitors, communicate, and enforce the rules and policies of the Brothel.
● Open/close the Brothel, including gift shop, following established procedures.
● Carry out very light housekeeping and cleaning duties throughout the day.
● Become knowledgeable of store products in order to answer questions and promote sales.
● Promote the benefits and features specific to each of Deadwood History’s museums and cross-promote them.
● Protect the property, assets, and artifacts by monitoring common areas and visitor activity.
● Maintain frequent communication with the tour coordinator regarding incidents at the Brothel, visitor feedback, and inquiries.
● Must have exceptional customer service skills, communication skills, be comfortable, and enjoy contact with adults of all ages.
● Must be able to exercise sound judgment and take initiative quickly to resolve security and safety issues while remaining calm and clear-headed.
● Assist, as needed, with special programs and special event duties.
● Perform other duties as assigned.


An individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily; in addition the individual must be able to speak clearly and comfortably before a group of up to 20 people and have the ability to lead a group tour independently.  Basic computer skills and knowledge with a POS system is preferred.  Other traits necessary for this position are to be:  reliable, punctual, personable, and enthusiastic.  The individual must be capable of learning and delivering historically accurate information and physically be able to conduct multiple tours each day.  The position is seasonal; availability during this time is expected. 

Physical Requirements

The duties of this position include standing for long periods of time, sitting, bending, kneeling, lifting or moving objects up to 25 pounds, and climbing stairs.  Must be able to see, speak, and hear effectively. $12.00 per hour
